What are the seating capacities in small wedding venues?

Before you go out looking at small wedding venues in Fort Worth, you might want to read this article about seating capacities.  It will, undoubtedly, save you some footwork during that search.

We are Tarrant Events Center, serving the Greater Fort Worth area with our all-purpose event center. Call us at 817-996-3636 for more information.

Why do small wedding venues have seating capacities?

Other than a matter of comfort (squeezing too many people into too small a space), the seating capacity question is a matter of safety.  Local fire departments are generally tasked with determining what the safe seating capacity of any public location is, and that determination is usually based upon some mathematical computation we need not discuss in this article.

Seating capacities are not reserved only for wedding venues. You will see the seating capacity posted at restaurants, at movie theaters, at concert venues, and at service halls. School auditoriums have posted seating capacities.  In point of fact, any public structure will have a seating capacity.

Let us state, for the record, we are in full support of seating capacities. Any governmental regulation which encourages the safety of the public is a regulation we can endorse.

Small wedding venues can have multiple seating capacities within one location.

It is possible for a venue to have multiple seating capacities, and this has to do with multiple floor plans and whether part of the event will be held outside. For example, at Tarrant Events Center, we have the main event venue indoors, but we also have over an acre of landscaped grounds included in the rental.  In that case, it would be entirely possible to have more than 300 people (the indoor seating capacity) at the outdoor wedding, as long as more than three hundred are not inside at any given time.

The first two questions you should ask of any wedding venue.

Most cities will have a number of options for you to choose from when looking at small wedding venues, and Fort Worth is no exception.  In fact, we would guess there to be over one-hundred possible small, affordable wedding venues within the Fort Worth city limits, which means an almost overwhelming list of options to consider.

Our suggestion, to quickly whittle down that list of venues, is to start your search on the phone, asking two questions immediately; What is the cost and what is the seating capacity?  You will already know what your budget is, and you will already know the number of guests you are inviting, so those two questions will quickly remove many venues from the list of possibles, making your job much easier.
