For those with no experience in renting reception halls, the fact that there are regulations governing what can and cannot be done in those halls might come as a surprise. We will clarify it all in this article. We are Tarrant Events Center, serving the Greater Fort Worth area with our affordable and flexible all-event center. Call us at 817-996-3636 for more information about pricing and availability.
First truth: not all reception halls are the same.
This seems like a no-brainer, but a new generation has arrived, and that generation, naturally, knows nothing about renting reception halls or wedding venues. They simply assume you find a reception space you like, you pay for the rental, and you start planning your reception. It never dawns on them, nor should it, that there are regulations/restrictions to look out for and to be aware of with reception venues.
Luckily for them, and luckily for you reading this, we are here to clear the muddy waters with insider information about renting event room rentals.
Regulations to be aware of.
A partial list of things to be aware of regarding wedding receptions:
- Banquet permits may be required, depending upon your state
- Fire regulations regarding the number of attendees in a building.
- Insurance coverage
- Zoning which prohibits certain activities in any given area.
- Food server permits from the local Health Department.
- Alcohol consumption? Is it allowed? Is a permit required for serving alcohol?
- Food preparation? Again, the Health Department.
- Noise restrictions should the reception be held outdoors.
Again, this is a partial list and again, it is dependent upon the area you live in, but this list will give you a starting point as you begin planning for the reception.
Options you might consider.
Before you throw up your hands in frustration and/or fear, take a deep breath and read on. All is not hopeless nor lost. You have options.
Always, and we mean always, rent an event space rental which offers the most flexibility in design. What do we mean by flexibility? Our own Tarrant Events Center offer ten floor plans. In addition, we offer the indoor main room but also over an acre of landscaped garden area. We also have a finishing kitchen so food can be prepared elsewhere but stored in our kitchen and served from there.
Speaking of food, we also offer the BYOB and BYOF options, opening the door for you to find inexpensive options regarding food and drink. That does not mean you can push regulations and permits aside, but it does mean it is legal to be creative provided the permits are obtained.
Our best word of advice: make your reservation for an event room rental a full year in advance. This will give you ample time to cross all of your T’s and dot all of your I’s before the big event.
